Is pre-authorization or a referral required?
Some insurance companies require referral from a primary care physician before you see a specialist. We ask that before your appointment, you call your insurance carrier to check if this is a requirement. It’s your responsibility to insure the referral is completed and forwarded to our office before you visit one of our specialists.
Insurance plans that DO require a referral include United Healthcare Medicare HMO plans, Tricare Select & Prime Remote, and VA Care in the Community. Referrals must be initiated by the patient and/or their Primary Care Physician (PCP).
Pre-authorization is typically not required for in-office procedures or consultations. Our coding/billing staff will check on all scheduled surgeries for authorization that are scheduled at outside facilities. We will forward that information to any surgical center or hospital facility.
Insurance claims
We want to make things easier for you. Surgery is stressful as it is, let alone taking care of the leg work. That’s why we’ll file your insurance claims for you. Once your claim is filed, we’ll give you monthly status updates on your account statement. If there is no response from an insurance carrier or a worker's compensation carrier within 60 days, you will be billed for the services.
Please bring all up-to-date insurance cards along to your first appointment so we can make copies for our records. Please be prepared to pay any co-pay amounts as these are due at the time of service.
